Wow, what an incredible experience! I recently visited “The Governess” and was blown away by the exceptional service, extensive drink menu, and lively atmosphere. The bartenders were knowledgeable, friendly, and crafted cocktails that were both creative and delicious. The vibe was perfect for a night out with friends or a date. I was particularly impressed by the attention to detail and commitment to quality. Can't wait to come back and try more of their innovative drinks!

What an awesome restaurant! This place is just what Poughkeepsie needed! Great location, wonderful staff, delicious food, and a friendly owner who wants to bring success to the riverfront. Food was awesome.... Try the sweet potato fries. They were something special! Also.... The bathroom is AMAZING! It is the “coolest” bathroom I’ve ever seen! If you know any Frozen fans, it is worth the trip, just to see the bathroom! We can’t wait to go back!

Amazing drinks! Jennifer makes great cocktails. All of the cocktails I had on the menu containing vanilla were very yummy. Nice vibes on Black Friday evening. Would highly recommend. And the coolest part: the bathrooms. My girlfriend and I both thought the bathrooms were the coolest thing ever. You’ve gotta check it out for yourself!

This was my second time visiting. The food was delicious and our waitress, Aiesha, was very attentive. Drinks were quick to arrive and nicely presented. I sat inside this evening. The sound system was well thought out. You could hear the music everywhere, but it was never too loud or too soft. The Halloween decorations were ghoulishly delightful! The first time I sat outside on the beautiful riverfront patio but the weather was warmer. The atmosphere is pleasant and laid-back. The owner is clearly present and on top of things. I really hope they succeed because I plan to be back.

My wife and I don’t get to sneak away for many date nights, but The Governess Bar and Restaurant made this one unforgettable. From the moment we walked in, the service was absolutely top notch—warm, attentive, and genuine without being overbearing. The owner personally came by to check in and was so gracious and inviting, it truly felt like we were being welcomed into someone’s beautiful home. Now let’s talk food: I can’t say this strongly enough—get the French dip sandwich with sweet potato fries. It was perfectly seasoned, melt-in-your-mouth good, and paired with those crispy fries...just wow. And the view? Stunning. Sitting there by the water, great food in front of us, love in the air, and gorgeous art inside —it was the kind of ambiance that makes you stop, take a breath, and just appreciate. Thank you to everyone at The Governess for giving us a night to remember. We’ll be back—and next time, we’re bringing the whole family!

Such a great restaurant, tons of open space and right on the water. Menu with a variety of items but also classic American food with a cool twist. Great tasting cocktails! And not to mention the lovely and inviting staff ! Was enjoying my time in forgot to take photos. But we went for Father’s Day with our 1 year old and the patron was perfect for her

The staff was very friendly and professional. It was the end of brunch and beginning of lunch, so timing was clearly explained. Food was excellent (I had crab roll w/nice fresh salad). Don't drink much but had a celebratory Margarita, as excellent. Our waiter was professional, friendly and fun and tolerated our silliness with humor. Highly recommend

The Governess on the Hudson River is an absolute gem! Aisha was my server and went above and beyond to make the evening perfect. The boneless wings and oysters were delicious, and the cocktails were top-notch. The stunning views of the Hudson made it even more memorable. Highly recommend!
